SHOW RULES AND REGULATIONS |
Exhibiting & Entering Plants
| 1. |
All exhibits and individual entries must be in place by 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2009, and must be left in place until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2009. |
| 2. |
All exhibitors are expected to familiarize themselves with the show schedule and exhibition guidelines. Each exhibitor agrees upon entry to abide by the Rules and Regulations of the Show. All questions regarding the interpretation of these rules shall be referred to the Judging Chairman for a decision. |
| 3. |
There are no fees to the exhibitor for entries or assistance in setting up exhibits. |
| 4. |
In order to sell orchid plants and related materials at the show, an exhibitor must place an exhibit of at least 100 square feet in the show. |
| 5. |
All exhibits must conform to the standards of quality established by the Show Committee. |
| 6. |
Foliage plants, moss, etc. may be used to complement orchids in exhibits, but no artificial, dyed, or dried plant material may be used. Plants in flower, or cut flowers, other than orchids will not be permitted in any exhibit that is to be considered for judging. |
| 7. |
Neither the East Everglades Orchid Society nor R.F. Orchids is responsible for loss or damage to any plants, blooms, containers or other property of exhibitors. However, every precaution will be exercised for their safety. |
| 8. |
Lighting used for effect in an exhibit is the responsibility of the exhibitor. Use of lighting must be coordinated with the Show Chairmen. |
| 9. |
Exhibits, and all plants or flowers used in them, must be properly labeled without identification of the owner until after judging has been completed. |
| 10. |
No cut flowers will be permitted in flowering plant exhibits; no flowering plants will be permitted in cut flower exhibits. |
| 11. |
All orchid flowers and exhibits, whether specifically entered for ribbon judging or not, will be considered for AOS awards unless otherwise marked by the exhibitor. If the flowers have previously been exhibited at an AOS function, they are not eligible for further consideration and the entry form should be marked "Not for AOS Judging". This will not disqualify the flower from consideration for ribbons or trophies. |
| 12. |
Submission of plants or cut flowers for judging shall obligate the exhibitor to accept any AOS award granted and to pay any AOS fees connected with such an award except where he or she has clearly indicated before judging that his or her entry is to be excluded from AOS judging. |
| 13. |
Official entry tags, obtained from the Show Committee, are required to be completed for every exhibit, plant or flower entry. |
| 14. |
Entry tags for plant or flower entries must include the plant name, plant parentage, clonal name (if any) and previous awards to the clone. |
| 15. |
Each exhibit, plant or flower should be entered into ONE class only. |
| 16. |
Mericlones are considered as vegetative divisions of the original plant and must be designated "meristem" on the entry form and the clonal name given. |
| 17. |
Natural hybrids will be entered in "species" classes. |
| 18. |
Criteria employed in ribbon class definitions refer to characteristics prevailing for mature plants grown according to normal horticultural practices. |
| 19. |
In order to be eligible for trophies, exhibits, plants, and flowers must be entered for ribbon judging. No separate entry is required. |
| 20. |
All orchid plants or flowers entered must be healthy and properly established. Obviously diseased or unestablished plants may be removed at the discretion of the Show Committee. |
| 21. |
Entries not in accordance with the Schedule may be disqualified, and the Show Committee reserves the right to remove inferior exhibits at any time. |
| 22. |
An exhibitor may enter no more than three plants or cut flowers in any one class. |
| 23. |
A meristem plant or cut flower may not be entered as a seedling blooming for the first time. |
| 24. |
For purposes of this schedule, "hybrid" means a cross made within the genus listed, unless preceded by the word "intergeneric", in which case two or more different genera are used in the cross. |
| 25. |
Any plant or cut flower may not be entered in more than one class, but may be part of an exhibit. |
| 26. |
For the purpose of this show, an amateur is defined as any person who has not sold more than a total of five hundred (500) plants and/or flowers in the last year. |
| 27. |
In general, blush colors and two-toned flowers should be entered in the "Other Colors" classifications. |
| 28. |
Color in Paphiopedilum hybrids is based on the dominant color of the petals and pouch, not the dorsal sepal. |
| 29. |
Equitant Oncidium hybrid classification is based on the lip color and its markings. |
| 30. |
A separate official entry form is required for each exhibit, plant, or cut flower to be judged. |
| 31. |
All entry forms must be printed legibly, or the entry is subject to disqualification. |
Judging
| 1. |
As an American Orchid Society (AOS) sanctioned show, the EEOS show will comply with current AOS rules as defined in the American Orchid Society Handbook on Judging and Exhibition . The AOS system of judging will be used. |
| 2. |
All plants and flowers will be considered for recognition based on present quality, without regard to previous awards or future potential. |
| 3. |
To maintain highly competitive standards, ribbons and/or trophies may be withheld if, in the judges' opinion, no legitimate entry warrants recognition. |
| 4. |
Judges may subdivide or add additional classes or awards upon approval of the Judging Chairman. |
| 5. |
First, second, and third place ribbons may be awarded to the best three entries in each class, other than a trophy class. |
| 6. |
All exhibits, plants, and cut flowers must be correctly entered in the appropriate class, or reclassified by a judge, to be eligible for ribbon judging. |
| 7. |
Improperly entered plants, flowers, or exhibits may be either reclassified or disqualified at the discretion of the judges. |
