Welcome to our web site. As President of the East Everglades Orchid Society, I would like to thank you for your visit and time at our web site. We hope you enjoy what we have to show you and the information we can provide. For more details on our society and our goals, please visit the section The Society.
The word that comes to mind when we think about our society is "dynamic." We always seem to be involved in one activity or another. Visit the What's New page to know what our club is up to and to remain up-to-date on the improvements to our site. We will be offering some pretty interesting benefits to our members thanks to our new server, so keep an eye on that page for these exciting updates.
For the visitors who are not yet members of our society, we invite you to head on to the Membership section of this site. There you will learn just how to join our club. You will also find an application, which you can print, fill out, and mail to us should you decide to become a member.
In the Meetings page, you will find out where and when we meet every month and what our meetings are all about. You will also be able to find out who our next speaker will be and the subject of his or her lecture. Don't forget: our meetings are always open to visitors.
We are involved in several main events every year and we intend to keep you posted on what these events are and when they take place. The Events page will include a list of shows, auctions and parties that our society organizes or participates in. The shows and auctions are a wonderful opportunity for beginner orchid enthusiasts to not only pick up some beautiful plants at reasonable prices, but also to learn from the people who grow them. There's nothing like talking to the growers themselves to learn about orchid culture. The parties are a great way to meet new friends and orchid lovers. You will be able to mingle among orchid growers and hobbyists in a relaxed and fun setting. Keep an eye on this page to find out when's our next event!
The highlight and most popular part of our meetings is the opportunity for members to exhibit their blooming orchids in a ribbon judging program. The results of these judgings is posted on our web site every month, in the Judging Results section. We also post pictures of the orchids which were awarded Culture ribbons. We recommend taking the time to view these beautiful specimens. Some of these plants are simply spectacular!
Okay, so you brought home a nice Lycaste or a Stanhopea from the last orchid show. That's great, but now what? How do you keep it? Orchid culture is a complex and debated subject, but we try to make it simple to our members and visitors. We offer to you orchid culture sheets, written by the generous people of the American Orchid Society and by our own members as well. Whether you want to extend your knowledge about a specific genus or get somebody else's opinion on pesticides, visit the Orchid Culture section of our site for thorough and simple to follow instructions. We're sure you'll find some interesting tips there. Now you can also ask your own question on orchid culture and breeding!
When everything is said and done, however, our society is about one thing: growing your own orchids. We have a tremendous appreciation for this wonderful group of plants and the efforts we make for them to thrive. That's why we are very proud to be able to display photographs of our members' orchids. Click on Members' Orchids to see these beautiful plants. These photographs are, for the most part, taken by our own members and show a wide variety of plants, but they're not necessarily awarded plants. This is a space for our members to display plants they're proud of. Maybe it's the first time it bloomed, or maybe it's a special plant, dear to someone's heart. Whatever the case may be, this page is dedicated to showing orchids grown by our very own members.
We are very proud to be able to offer our members and visitors free orchid wallpaper. But what is "desktop wallpaper" and why would anyone want to have it? Well, desktop wallpaper is simply put virtual wallpaper for your computer desktop. Many of you probably didn't know that you could customize your desktop area by changing the picture to anything you want, as many times as you want. This is a simple procedure that can help make you computer a little more friendly. The East Everglades Orchid Society has made a selection of free orchid wallpapers available on this web site. All you have to do is download them and follow the simple installation instructions. It's very easy. Now, instead of some boring clouds or a computer manufacturer's logo, you can have a picture or painting of a beautiful orchid on your desktop. Just head on over to the Wallpaper Gallery to download some orchid wallpaper for free!
We can also link you with other societies and commercial growers in our area. Just head on to the Links section to take a look at other orchid clubs, find out about local vendors, and learn about interesting Internet orchid resources.
We are very proud of our site and hope to be expanding and improving it continuously. We invite you to explore the site and comment on it by contacting our webmaster at (webmaster@orchidseeos.com). Furthermore, should you find any bad links or experience any problems with the site, please let us know so that we can address the issue as soon as possible. We guarantee you that we will make every effort to always keep this site operational and up-to-date.
We hope you enjoy your visit.
Thank you.
