March 2004 Ribbon Judging
WHO LET THE ORCHIDS OUT!! We had a bumper crop of orchids this month. There were quite a few extra cattleyas and dendrobiums, along with our normal harvest of phalaenopsis & species for this time of year. It must be the weather.
As you can see, we have a few orchids with no owners. If you want your ribbon scores to count, please let David Schaffter know so he can record the scores. With all the wind that night, some judging entries were lost, so we made allowances and judged the orchids anyway.
Four culture awards were given this month. Bob Watson received culture for a Den. aggregatum with 22 inflorescences and 286 yellow flowers. John & Wayne received culture for a large C. skinneri that had 24 inflorescences supporting 192 large well-displayed flowers. David Schaffter received cultures for a Den. Golden Aya with 23 inflorescences with 138 pale yellow flowers, and a large, pendulous Den. nobile with 34 canes supporting 204 white flowers, with burgundy-black central labellum and light fuchsia at ends of petals & sepals.
