August 2005 Ribbon Judging

What do you do with your orchids if a hurricane threatens? If you don't have too many, then you can stuff them in your house or garage. If you have a large collection and no extra space, lay them on the ground against the house so they don't become projectiles & the neighbors down the street don't get all your orchids. This will also minimize physical damage to the leaves. Don't forget to liberally sprinkle snail bait all around your plants. When winds subside, get them back on their benches & off the ground.

Now is a good time to start grooming your orchids for our upcoming show. Along with AOS judging, we will also ribbon judge our members' plants. Orchids awarded will receive double points towards the end of year totals. Don't forget to continue fertilizing, grooming, and staking your prize-winning orchids.

If you see your orchid with a question mark where your name is supposed to be, bring it to the attention of the judging chairperson so he can make note of it. Thanks.
