What do you do with your orchids if a hurricane threatens? If you don't have too many, put them in your house or garage. If you have a large collection, put them on the ground against the house so they don't become projectiles & end up as your neighbors' new orchids. This will also minimize physical damage to the leaves. Don't forget to sprinkle snail bait around your plants. When winds subside, get them back on their benches & off the ground as soon as possible.

Now is a good time to start grooming your orchids for our upcoming show. Along with AOS judging, we will also ribbon judge our members' plants. Orchids awarded will receive double points towards the end of year totals. Don't forget to continue fertilizing, grooming, and staking your prize-winning orchids.

Karen Henington brought in a Culture winning Phal. cornu-cervi this month. This well-grown, clean plant had 15 inflorescences supporting 60 flowers and 27 buds. Flowers were evenly spaced around the 50cm diameter orchid. Petals and sepals were pale yellow overlaid with mahogany bars. Column was yellow with a white lip. Other awards as follows:
