We hope to see your orchids at the East Everglades Orchid Show this
coming Oct 15, 16, and 17. Don’t forget to register your orchids
so you can receive double points towards judging. You can also donate your plants towards our exhibit.
This is a time of change for your orchids. Our evenings and mornings are
becoming cooler and before you know it, a cool front will arrive and your
orchids will start to dry out! You will now be forced to start a watering schedule in order to keep
your orchids hydrated and healthy. Some orchids like Cattleyas can adjust to the dryer weather, and many
of the pendulous Dendrobiums need a rest period of very little water in the
cooler months of winter.
Jim
Lindberg received a culture award
for his Mtssa Dark Star that he brought in this month. This
large, well-grown orchid was in a basket and had 38 flowers with 13
buds. The flowers were pale
burgundy overlaid with darker burgundy splotches on the petals and
sepals. The lip was a dark
magenta with lighter lines towards column. Column was yellow and extended to base of lip. Congratulations, Jim!
