It’s getting the end of the season, so the weather
is starting to dry out & cool off….a little. Now’s the time to cut back some on the fertilizer and make
sure you water a little more, especially if it’s warm and dry. Don’t water if it’s cold. You should also start to see some new
stuff coming into bloom. The
mild days and cooler evenings will help the Cattleyas and Dendrobiums start
to bud out. Watch out for the
snails. They seem to prefer the
cooler evenings, especially if there is an evening or night shower. They can destroy several flowers or
buds in just one night.
You might notice on the judging report for our
show, we found the current, correct name for the cross of two hybrids that
our members brought in. We
can offer this service to our members with the help of Orchid Wiz, the
computer program we have at the meeting. This is an invaluable tool we use to help us with our
judging. If you have an orchid
that is a cross of 2 names, maybe we can find the latest hybrid name. Just make sure you write it down
and make a tag and stick it in your orchid!
Our next meeting will be our last orchid judging of
the year, so groom & stake your orchids and bring them in. If we don’t see you in November, make
sure you come to the Christmas Party.
