January 2012

Welcome to East Everglades Orchid Society’s new year of Ribbon Judging.  We have some helpful tips to help make your participation in ribbon judging more pleasant.  The judges will be more inclined to give higher scores if orchids are cleaned and blooms are staked up for a more pleasing presentation. After you fill out your entry form, please go socialize with your friends, so our judges can get to work and finish judging and let them enjoy the program.  Judging starts at promptly 7:30.  Thank you very much for your cooperation and help to make our Judging Program so popular and successful.   If you find an error in the posting of the awards, please email the Judging Chairperson of the problem at rpalms@bellsouth.net as soon as possible so it can be corrected.

You might THINK spring is here and your plants will never get cold, but….  We’ve seen some pretty chilly weather, even into the beginning of March!  Don’t let your guard down, we’ve had a false winter, and it’s not over until the birds start migrating north!  We’ve had an unusually warm winter and you might find some orchids blooming now that normally bloom in February or March.  It’s been very warm so far, but it’s better than being too cold!

* Lorraine, your Onc. Maureen x Onc. Haematochilum has a new name,
