The East Everglades Orchid Society meeting begins with a mini-class at 7:15 p.m., followed by the general meeting and program at 8:00 p.m. on the FOURTH TUESDAY of each month.

Guest SpeakersOrchids are the reason that brings us to our meetings, every fourth Tuesday of each month. We get together to hear different speakers from all over the world. These speakers give a slide presentation on different types of orchids grown worldwide. Most of these speakers specialize in certain types of orchids such as Dendrobiums, Cattleyas or special Miniature orchids, and some of them will give lectures on fungicides or insecticides used especially for orchids. So each month there is a great deal of knowledge to be obtained by coming to our meetings.

We have a mini class prior to our main program, so that you can learn how to repot an orchid, how to take orchids from a compot or a flask, or about the different chemicals used especially for orchids. If you have a particular problem with your orchids you are always welcome to bring it to our meeting, and someone will always be there to advise you on how to care for it. After our speaker is finished, we have a refreshments break . Next, our President announces the judging of first place and culture ribbon winners and talks a little about those orchids - depending on the amount of time we have. After that, we have a table of orchids which we raffle off at each meeting. You will always have a chance to increase your collection by participating in our raffles. And, if you are an AOS member, we give you a free raffle ticket for being a member, not to mention the free raffle ticket you get for being a member of East Everglades Orchid Society.

Ribbon JudgingWe encourage our members to bring their blooming orchids for ribbon judging. This is a lot of fun, since most of them have been nurturing these plants for a long time. These get judged, and their owners go home with a ribbon for each awarded orchid. Depending on how well the orchid was grown, its owner can even get a culture award, which means that the orchid has great looking leaves and really nice looking blooms.

EEOS Holiday PartyWe encourage people to join our society, since we all have something in common: orchids. You get to meet new people, as well as obtaining a lot of insight on growing orchids, and how you too can be a better grower. Our society has a Christmas party, orchid auctions, picnics and many more functions as well. Join today, so you can start enjoying these benefits.

Come and join us as we explore this wonderful group of plants.
