David Swoyer from Sands Orchids in New Smyrna Beach will give a presentation on native species.
'Close Encounters of the Wild Orchid Kind' is a slide lecture presented by David Swoyer of Sands Orchids, Inc. Florida's native orchids, both in the ground and in the trees, are the most diverse group of wild orchids in the United States. Where and when to have close encounters is dependant on knowing growing conditions and adaptations of these fascinating plants. Swoyer begins with a brief overview of how Florida's ancient history sets the physical stage for the development of orchid species in the State.
Sands Orchids, Inc. was formed 8 years ago in response to a passion for orchids. Partners Joseph Shodis and David Swoyer formed the business to share with others the satisfaction of growing these special plants. Sands has received many awards for individual plants and installations at American Orchid Society shows.
