January is turning out to be a unique month for our club. For one thing, the World Orchid Conference is here in Miami and it is taking place exactly on the week of our regular meeting. So we thought it better to change the date of the meeting to Thursday of the week before (January 17, 2008). Secondly, the speaker we had lined up had to cancel due to serious health problems. We all loved Bill Bergstrom's talk when he came over from Hawaii to speak at our club in January of 2005. Unfortunately, Bill had some pretty daunting health issues and was forced to cancel his engagement. All our thoughts and wishes of a speedy receovery go to him and his family. |
Fortunately for the club, Carlos Segrera agreed to fill in for Bill at the last minute. He is going to give a presentation on the 2006 Tokyo Orchid Show. As far as we can remember, this is going to be a first for the club. We're all very interested to see how they put together an orchid show in Japan. However, since this was set up at the last minute, we were not able to obtain a bio and a photo of Carlos. So we'll let him tell us all about himself at the meeting.
We thank Carlos for stepping up to help the EEOS, and we hope to see many of our members there to watch Carlos's program and support the club. And don't forget to greet Carlos at the meeting and thank him for his help! Give him a nice EEOS welcome! |
