Tonight's Program:
Bob Hatos
The Joy of Hybridizing

Bob Hatos This month we are honored to have one of the almost original members of the East Everglades Society to speak with us. Bob Hatos, and his wife, Sandy, joined our society near its beginnings. He has spoke with us before, but it’s been awhile. I have coaxed him out of “Speaker Retirement” to once again grace our podium and give us newer members a chance to learn from his knowledge and expertise!

Bob and his wife have been growing orchids here in South Miami-Dade for the last 20 years. And in that time, they have managed to rack up 29 original crosses registered with the Royal Horticultural Society, the record keeper of all modern hybrids.

Bob and Sandy’s favorites are dendrobiums (look at the one in the picture!) and also those in the vandaceous family. They have lived in South Florida for over 35 years.

Bob will be explaining about the Joy of Hybridizing. This is an area that a lot of us know very little about. But once you get into making your own crosses, you can get hooked on it! Bob has been very successful at hybridizing and has lots of interesting information to share with us.

He will also be giving the Culture Class section of our meeting and he will be bringing our raffle table plants! This will be a great meeting for all of us...don’t miss it!

Come and join us as we explore this wonderful group of plants.
